The theoretical client for this project is Prospect New Orleans, a citywide contemporary art trillenial. We were tasked with designing their office headquarters in the heart of the French Quarter, two blocks west of Jackson Square.
Prospect’s mission states that they wish to present art “in both traditional and highly unexpected environments.” With the context of the site in the Quarter presenting a more traditional environment (historical context, orthogonality of street grids/buildings, etc.), the goal of this design is to introduce these more unexpected environments.
This is achieved through sectionally undulating pods placed within the orthogonal form. In plan these pods create floating private spaces in the midst of a free-flowing, open plan which otherwise allows for flexible and collaborative work spaces. In section these forms create organic courtyards which strategically distribute natural light throughout all four floors as well as provide vertical connections between floor to floor.
