This project focuses on leading the process of urban transformation under the umbrella of ‘urbanism by cooperation.’ The hypothesis of the course is that the 21 home owners of the site in Uptown New Orleans work together to develop, densify, and diversify (socially and pragmatically) the urban block. Urbanism by Cooperation has the potential with a low interest credit line to democratize urban development’s economic benefits while complying with larger sociological agendas.
My final scheme is a community for artists which consists of housing units for singles, friends, students, and families. The development also contains music studios, artist workshops, pop-up shops, a fashion catwalk, art galleries, and all of this is surrounding a large central outdoor amphitheater. These performance spaces and galleries give opportunity to spread the arts throughout the Greater New Orleans area.
